Fourteen lawyers from WeirFoulds have been appointed judges by the Federal government, the first in 1883 and the most recent one in 2021. Eight of these judges were appointed to courts of appeal in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Profession

Past and current lawyers have distinguished themselves as Treasurers (heads) and Benchers (governors) of the Law Society of Ontario (the regulatory body for the legal profession in Ontario), as presidents of the Canadian Bar Association and other legal bodies, as recipients of the Law Society Medal for contributions to the legal profession, and as recipients of the Order of Canada for contributions to Canadian public life. Many of our lawyers also sit on bar committees, such as the Committee examining amendments to the Rules of Civil Procedure.

Arnup Cup

First awarded in 1988, the Arnup Cup is an annual trial advocacy competition for Ontario law schools. The Cup is named for the Honourable John D. Arnup QC, OC, who was a former member of the firm before being appointed to the Court of Appeal for Ontario. The winners of the Arnup Cup earn the right to compete in the Sopinka Cup, the national trial advocacy competition for Canadian law schools. WeirFoulds hosts an annual reception for the students participating in the Arnup Cup, continuing a tradition of litigation excellence at the firm.

SOC 2 Certification

WeirFoulds is committed to ensuring that our clients’ most sensitive data and information is secure, protected and confidential. Following a lengthy audit process, our digital security maintenance and data confidentiality processes have been fully certified as operating at SOC 2 compliance level, with the firm achieving the Trust Services Criteria in security and data confidentiality. Developed by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), SOC 2 is recognized as the highest possible data security compliance standard for service organizations. WeirFoulds achieved SOC 2 Certification consecutively in both 2023 and 2024.
